In the enchanting backdrop of 19th-century Europe, a story inspired by the timeless myth of Cupid and Psyche unfolds. Meet Evelyn, a captivating young enchantress whose radiant beauty captures the hearts of all who gaze upon her. But amidst the opulence of aristocratic society, a divine twist of fate is about to change everything.
Evelyn's charm invokes the envy of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, who, fearing her mortal admirers' devotion will surpass her own, hatches a plan. She commands her mischievous son, Eros, the mischievous god of love, to make Evelyn fall in love with a suitor she deems unfit for the enchantress.
Yet, Cupid, ever rebellious and curious, defies his mother's orders. As he takes aim at Evelyn with his golden arrow intending to make her fall for a less worthy man, a startling sight meets his eyes. The moment he lays eyes on Evelyn's face, he is so taken aback by her beauty that he accidentally shoots himself in the foot with the golden arrow meant for her.
Now, with an arrow of love piercing his own heart, Cupid experiences an unexpected turn of events. He finds himself irresistibly drawn to Evelyn, enchanted by her innocence, grace, and kindness. From that moment, his sadistic tendencies to cause pain to others are softened, and he can no longer bring himself to harm the enchanting mortal.
Determined to protect Evelyn from any potential harm, Cupid hides his true identity and assumes the guise of a charismatic and enigmatic gentleman. He frequents the glittering balls and lavish soirées of high society, ensuring that he stays close to her, even as rumors about the mysterious gentleman start circulating.
As Cupid and Evelyn spend more time together, their connection deepens, and they find solace in each other's company. Yet, unbeknownst to Evelyn, the shadows of deceit and jealousy threaten to engulf their happiness. Aphrodite, enraged by Cupid's defiance, seeks to reclaim her son and resume her original plan.
Many forget that the goddess of love was born from the raging sea, but she would do anything to protect her daughter.
Adora was Aphrodite's last daughter. Her mother kept her hidden. But, her mother isn't the only one who can keep a secret, especially in a world where your role in society is everything.
For there was a prophecy long before she was born:
'Aphrodite's last child would be the one to take the throne,
Her paternity unknown.
They would carve her face and never forget,
for she would be the most beautiful that they had met
Cursed for the same fate as her mother
Forced to leave her love for another
The only way she shall break this curse
is if she defeats the first'
"Looks like the princess doesn't need saving after all." He says, quietly enough that no one else would hear, as he draws his hand away from my arm. I glare back at him.
"Maybe she never did," I walk away, not sparing a single glance back, no matter how much my body was begging me to. I fuss over my hair, pouting as I run my fingers through it to put it back into place.
*A warning note*
I am not an expert on Greek Mythology, but it interests me greatly. Please excuse any inaccuracies in the book, but if there are any please do message or comment it and I will see if I can change it without making such a huge difference to the plot.
Also, my main character is autistic and the experience will be different for everyone. I have tried my hardest to put down on paper how I feel and how I believe others see me. So, please be respectful about the decisions my characters make as I have chosen to give them many different types of neurodivergent brains. I have tried my best to represent these in the most accurate light whilst not romanticising them.
