Reality is Optional is a novel about a group of gamers who are trapped in a virtual reality MMORPG. They are unable to log out, and they soon realize that death in the game means death in real life.

The gamers are a diverse group of people from all walks of life. There is the young and inexperienced gamer, the grizzled veteran, the social outcast, and the brilliant hacker. They must all put aside their differences and work together if they want to survive.

The gamers quickly learn that the world of "Reality is Optional" is a dangerous place. There are monsters to fight, traps to avoid, and other players who are willing to kill them for their gear. The gamers must also contend with the game's creator, who has a mysterious agenda.

As gamers fight for their lives, they begin to question the nature of reality. What is the difference between real life and virtual life? What does it mean to be alive?

The novel explores these themes through the eyes of gamers, who are forced to confront their own mortality and make difficult choices in order to survive. It is a story about the power of friendship, the importance of hope, and the meaning of life.All Rights Reserved

2024 was a year of innovation. One of the greatest things to come out of it was the technology of full-dive VR, as well as AR. It was also the year of a great disaster. Almost three hundred teenagers from all over Japan were captured, tortured, forced into a VR game, and, should they die in-game, killed in real life. Kaze "Zero" Shiro's sister was one of the many losses of this year-long tragedy. Most who were involved in the kidnappings have been put behind bars. However, this event has forever changed Kaze. Now, two years later, he still seeks revenge and some sort of closure for his dead sister. Will he find what he is searching for, or will his failures lead him down a darker path?

I look down at the frail frame of the girl. I unlatched her cage and nudged her with my foot. It seems cruel, but the other trainers would have done much worse to see her ignoring their commands to rise. "Wake up, you're being moved," I say to her, crouching down and shaking her. She lies unmoving and a heaviness settles in my chest. I move her hair from her face and press my fingers to her neck, trying to find a pulse. I purse my lips, feeling the faint beating of her weak heart. I look at the girl, watching her struggle to push air in and out of her lungs. I can tell she is sick. Do I put her in the truck with the others, or take her to the doctor? The truth is, nothing good awaits her in the truck. The only question is if it is crueler to go put her with the others, unconscious and barely holding on, or to take her to the doctor. I feel sick just thinking about it. She either dies here, or will wish she would have. I can't turn a blind eye to her though, I can't stand and watch as the life leaves her. Perhaps she will be thankful for me saving her life. ---- Hazel. She's a pretty little thing, far too precious and fragile for the life she was born into.
