By definition it is what you attain after you fail to impress a woman you're attracted to. Usually initiated by the woman saying, "You're such a good friend". Usually associated with long days of suffering and watching your love interest hop from one bad relationship to another. Verb tense is "Friend-ed". whoooo that was hard isn't it ? The girl you like tells you her every secret, keeps you company, and tells you the she loves you but always ends it with the phrases "You're a very good friend". Well every guy went and stayed on the friend zone, but sometimes waiting does prove to be fruitful and ends up in a very special way.
