It is, there is something that they didn't have: technology. And Tsunayoshi, as a young kitsune, has to be in the war between kitsune and humans.  Under constant tension between them, they (humans) didn't know the consequences of their actions. As for Tsunayoshi, what would he do? Can he survive?
