After the prank Remus was torn apart. He started doing things that weren't so healthy such as drinking all the alcohol in the dorm, smoking all his emergency weed and having sex with half of Hogwarts. Evan and Barty have had a crush on Remus lupin since the beginning of the year,Barty and Evan talked about their feelings for Remus,since they were already dating before making this discovery. The decided that adding lupin to the relationship would not be that bad of an idea. So when Remus randomly sit with them one day they were confused,of course they noticed the enormous shift is remus's personality,he's being a whore. They let Remus know about their offer and Remus takes it into account
