Not everyone possesses a clear sense of self, including Anika Myung. Throughout her teenage years, she aspired to discover her purpose in life, yet she refrained from pursuing it due to constant pressure from her half Korean and Latina parents. The immense stress of being a member of an Asian Christian family took a toll on her mental well-being, causing a rapid decline.

Anika was well aware that expressing her true emotions would result in severe reprimand. Consequently, she dedicated herself solely to her academic performance, disregarding her own thoughts and the people around her. Rather than seeking companionship, she opted to live in solitude, well aware that her parents would never approve of her cultivating friendships.

No one knows the true name of the Reaper. It is said that looking into his eyes is like staring at death itself, and no one dares to ask. Anika, the younger sister of the Reaper's closest companion, has been silently battling severe mental health issues throughout her life. The unmistakable signs of her struggles manifest in the form of bullying and gossip among her peers. However, Anika remains so absorbed in her own reality that these external factors hold no significance.

Despite Reaper's differences with the Myung family, they continue to treat him as one of their own. The extent to which they consider him family is apparent, and Anika feels envious of this dynamic. While she is treated as a scapegoat, it seems illogical to treat someone they disagree with as if they were part of the family.

Why me? I'm not even worth it." "You looked so lonely. So sad, so hidden. You looked like you were so used to being silent. But I knew there was more to it than what meets the eye. I wanted to decode the mystery." He looked deep into her eyes. "So what do you want?" She held his gaze, even though she hated eye contact. He smiled softly and sang, "All I wanna be, all I ever wanna be, is somebody to you." ________________________________________________ Darkness and shadows were all she ever saw. She lived in silence, her whole world a monochromatic display that only she could see. Her red rimmed glasses only made clearer her strife and the elastic band on her left wrist reminded her of her long lived sorrow. She hid from the world, going unnoticed by everyone, slowly crumbling to dust on her own. That was all until one faithful day when someone did the unthinkable and decided that she was worth noticing. She was the girl in the grey hoodie. And he was someone who cared. Take your mind on a journey of two unique souls, sprinkle in a little friendship, a teaspoon of tears, a spoon of laughter and fun and maybe a pinch of violence and love with a hint of secrets. And while you wait for that delicious cake to bake, a good sing along won't hurt. TW: this book may contain mentions of violence and of suicide. DISCLAIMER #1: I wrote this story when I was a teen and while some mental disorders are the focal point, they may not be accurate representations as I was far from being a psychologist. There are several things Lynn doesn't quite get about the world she lives in, which makes it harder for her to figure herself out. She is not your average teenager. She's young, intelligent, though something about her is off by now. Everyone is quick to misjudge and point fingers, everything and everyone is so corrupted that she's afraid she'll lose herself among a bunch of wandering, empty souls. Therapy can only help so much, depression is hard to die, and in Lynn's case it's caused solely by the fact she doesn't 'fit in'. She can't really find her place in the world. But there's something really special about her; Her dreams are haunted by a wonderful, mystical place. No one understands her, they think she's off her rocker, that she needs to cut her childish daydreams. But Lynn knows deep in her heart that place really exists, and she'll do anything to find it, with the help of some new found friends. There's only one thing she must do: Keep an open mind, it brings open hearts and open eyes. -- DISCLAIMER #2 This fanfiction is inspired to Mind Over Matter by Pvris and their lyrics in general. All you read here is fiction. every reference to real events or people is purely coincidental. I do not own the songs featured in the book.
