Her fingers dug into the fabric of pants as a black void swelled in her vision-and then, clear as crystal, it appeared: a hooded skull, looming above her like a specter torn from the darkest pages of a horror tale. Its dark hollow eyes pierced straight into her viridescent, paralyzed gaze. Blood pooled beneath its feet, and though it didn't move, Alice could feel its presence-massive, ancient, aware.
