Ch.1 The Starting Point

"Dang it Leo! That ring was the only thing of mom's that I had left!" Derik shouted with anger. To my surprise, he didn't hit me. Derik is the type of person that you don't want to make angry. My name is Leonardo Bartolinni, Leo for short. I am 16 and I live with my older brother Derik, who is 21. Derik and I haven't quite gotten along very well since our mother died. Derik said she was shot when I was just about 12. Derik and I left our home in Colorado and moved to Santa Monica, California. I didn't know much about my new school, But I did know it wouldn't be very inviting. "Get up you lazy bum! You're going to be late!" Derik insisted. I rushed outside to our car, making sure not to forget my bag or lunch money.
