After being disowned by her parents, fifteen year old Serena Verlice finds herself in a toxic relationship with a much older man. She undergoes four years of emotional and physical abuse until one day she goes to the doctor and receives a devastating diagnosis. Deciding that she wasn't going to spend however long she has left with her cruel fiancé, she takes off in the night, spending months on the run. She bounces around Italy from hostel to hostel, working any job she can get as her health slowly deteriorates.
