In a realm where binds of blood ensure absolute loyalty, a former general and his new guard navigate politics and assassination attempts in the face of impending war.

Wrell Draekon failed in her duty as a bloodbound guard when her master was killed by an unknown assassin. Hoping to redeem herself, and with nowhere else to go, she pledges her loyalty to Lord General Jurion Calustus, her master's younger brother and the realm's new Great Lord.

Still reeling after the murder of his mother and brother, Jurion Calustus is thrust into a role he does not want and bloodbound to a servant he does not need. To preserve his realm from war, he forges a shaky alliance with the ruthless Empress Vian, a woman as perplexing as the guard who follows his every step.

But as both Wrell and Jurion attempt to survive the dangers and difficulties of three nations on the brink of war, they are forced to come to terms with what they have lost . . . and begin to realize what they truly need.

As long as people believed that there was a division between the Gifted and the non-Gifted, that one was superior to the other, I wasn't done. As long as there were kings on thrones to reinforce the idea that people like Porter and Briar and everyone else I cared about were unworthy of this world, I wasn't done. "And then," I continued, a resolution forming in my mind. "I'm going to destroy those six thrones." ********************************************** Wren Heatherfield has been through hell and back, surviving the deadly trials of the Garner and claiming the title of Garner Champion. However, her fight is far from over, with the real challenges only just beginning. Adjusting to her new life in the Ember Court with her insufferable enemy-turned-friend Kesserian Cinis, Wren is forced to face the truth of how close the six courts of Naturian are to a civil war, with Nox and Wren leading the opposing sides. "You're playing with fire Safania." "Good thing I don't burn." The last words he spoke before throwing me onto my bed sounded like a threat, but felt more like a promise. "You will." *** Don't get caught. Those are the three words Safania has lived by for the past five years. As a marked woman - easily identified by intricate bronze marks on her back and unpredictable special abilities - she has spent the past five years running from anyone who might exploit those abilities...especially the royal families who tortured marked women to build their empires. Starving, exhausted, and frozen, she collapses by the bank of a river just to wake up in her worst nightmare: the chambers of a prince. Prince Cassius is his father's first choice of his three brothers to ascend to the throne. He's smart, strategic, and stoic, unlike his corrupt and depraved brothers. There's just one problem: he has no interest in any of his proposed marital matches, and the King will only pick someone as his successor who he knows will carry on the family line. But once he meets Safania, he finds himself unable to imagine ruling the kingdom without her by his side. Can he convince her to trust him? *** Warning: this story contains mature and potentially triggering themes including domestic violence and sexual assault. Reader discretion is advised.
