"Only five months. Five months into this marriage, and we'll part ways."
"You're-you're joking, right?" She stammered, her voice trembling, but he shook his head in denial.
"Am I so ugly that you're cheating on me and are so desperate to divorce me, boliye, Ansh ji?" It was the only thought that came to her mind. Could he be cheating? Did he loved someone else? But why was he telling all of this now?
He didn't answer her, but he felt a pang when she referred to herself as ugly. How could she, when every boy is after her? He himself had been waiting for her for the past 12 years.
When he finally spoke, his words cut deeper than she had thought possible.
"We were essentially forced into this marriage, Rooh. It has no future; you and I have no future. So, don't expect anything from me," he said as a lone tear escaped from his eyes.
She couldn't speak; her world had shattered, and her emotions were in turmoil. It felt like her world had turned upside down. How would a woman feel when, on the very first night of her marriage, she was asked for a divorce, and her husband gifted her divorce papers?

I felt a pang of guilt, but I had to be honest. "Yes, but I promise after marriage, if you don't want me to stay in your room, I can move out or sleep on the couch. I won't touch-"
Anirudh cut me off, his expression unreadable. I wondered what he was thinking, and what lay ahead for us.
"Roop, I know you don't like me and you don't want to marry me. It's okay. I will talk with your family. I don't want to Force you in this. But one thing. I met you this morning, but I feel like we've known each other for many years."
"No, please. Don't talk with them. I have only option to marry you"
"Roop, you like me or not, but I promise I will love you with my whole heart till my death if you will marry me, and I promise you, I will do everything that makes you happy. I promise."
He turned towards the house, leaving me in a daze. I stood there, trying to process his words.
