Shifted

Kate's life might not have been perfect before the accident, but she had loved it nevertheless. She was still young, smart, and reasonably attractive by normal societal standards. And she had Nate. Kate had married her bestfriend; Nate was the golden-haired, mischievous and sarcastic- but unwaveringly loyal cowboy that had her heart.
But, the sudden and accidental death of Kate's mother had left her shattered and traumatized and after a year of grieving, her nightmares still claimed a new piece of her every time she made an attempt at sleep. Lately however, Kate's dreams and reality are becoming harder to distinguish. Troubling marks, made from corresponding injuries in her dreams, seem to be appearing on Kate's body while she sleeps, and she is beginning to wonder if the world's that she visits at night are even a product of dreams at all- or perhaps just different realities.
