Nature never worked.

You've never tried to make it work - Would be Canada's response. Stuck in a moral dilemma and the pressure to do great things, along with unneeded advise all take a toll on his youthful outlook. Trying not to lose his idealism, Canada resigns to work with a lumber company - the exact opposite of what he studied for. Would this be all he amounted to? A profiteering tree-killer with a degree in forest conservation? No doubt there's more to that.

Nature never worked.

Then don't try to understand me - Would be Norway's response. Between his Scandinavian household's lack of attention to the important aspects of life and the incessant clamour of others around him sap at his sweetness. Most days, he's bland, unemotional, and disinterested. But in the nearby forest, he's a whole different person, with an aura of hope that lights a path to the skies. Anyone who knew Norway enough knew that the forest was his spot of peace and tranquility.

All of that would be nice if the forest wasn't suddenly sold to be torn down. Norway meets the first perpetrator, Canada, mid-stroke to take the life of the first tree. The story of two misunderstood people who are bound by circumstance, bad luck, and nature.

And if this all goes smoothly, you two will be able to get divorced before the hockey season ends." "I have the places where you both will sign," His eyes lifted and scanned both of us. "But only of course, if you both agree to this." "I'll do it," I said honestly. Minnow sighed outwardly and bit her bottom lip. "If you need more time-" "No," she swallowed, staring at the thick packet in front of us. "I feel like this goes without saying but...no sex. Of any kind. It only complicates things." My cheeks flushed with heat, probably turning pink and Minnow choked. "We won't..." I shook my head, clenching my jaw. Shivers crossed my back. "You don't have to worry about that," Minnow said obviously. "Trust me." ***************************************** Minnow Noel is known for two things: being a hot head and an amazing figure skater. Running from a dark relationship and a past version of herself, she ends up where her skating career all started. Norwegian native Søren Skejeggstad's only focus in life is hockey. They were once friends in a past life but now things are cold as ice between them. Just the thought of Søren alone makes Minnow's blood run cold and he'd rather avoid her at all costs. (Short story) "This kiss just sealed the deal. You're mine and only mine now, Grace." His voice is low and rough like gravel and laced with something primal. I stop breathing. The air thickens, electric, heavy like the sky before a storm breaks. Everything stills, but the static between us crackles like it's seconds from combusting. His breath fans across my lips-close, so close-but still not touching. My heart slams against my ribs, erratic and loud, like it's trying to break free from my chest. Then his hand finds my jaw. His palm is rough, warm, grounding-but the look in his eyes? That's a wildfire. Just heat and hunger and something darker. "I..." The word is a whisper, barely there, shaky and useless. I can't finish it. His nose brushes mine in the softest graze, but there's nothing innocent about the way he's looking at me. Like he's seconds away from tearing me apart. Like he's been starving for this. "Say something" he murmurs, voice thick, his eyes flicking to my mouth. My lips part, not to speak, but because I need to breathe, to taste the tension curling like smoke around us. His thumb drags across my lower lip, slow and deliberate. My knees damn near buckle. I grab the front of his shirt, clutching it in both fists like he's the only thing tethering me to the ground. He leans in closer. And then his lips brush mine. Barely. A whisper of a kiss, soft enough to make me shiver. Then he kisses me again.
