When she became Guardian 3 years ago and being Ladybug for 6 years since she was thirteen, now at the age of 19 Marinette's life got more stressful after she became Guardian at the age of 16 and with Lila making her life miserable by turning her friends against her, Marinette knew it was only a matter of time before she gets akumatized so she thought of a plan and that was become Ladybug full time so she need to fake her own death so no one can go searching for her. 

After Marinette faked her death things went downhill for her ex-friends since Lila took the advantage without Marinette around
