Evie Scout's mother turned her world upside down when she yanked her out of their hometown and moved to Mount Spectre. Having to ditch her friends and be the new girl on her first day of high school truly sucked.
Evie is positive living in the Mount Spectre neighborhood known as Mistyside will be a nightmare. That is until she meets Raymond Blackwood. Ray is everything a 14-year-old girl could want-cute, funny, thoughtful and kind. Okay, so maybe it's weird that he doesn't have a phone, and won't invite Evie into his home, but Mistyside isn't exactly the most prosperous neighborhood. Maybe his parents can't afford one. Maybe he's embarrassed by his house? And what does it matter? Ray makes Evie's first two weeks in Mistyside amazing. She doesn't even have time to be lonely.
So, when school starts in the fall, Evie is excited, looking forward to making new friends and seeing the boy who shared her first kiss.
But Ray's disappeared and no one knows who he is . . .
In fact, no one with Ray's last name has lived in Mistyside for almost a hundred years. Evie knows she's not crazy. Is it possible someone played a nasty trick on her?
