Last Light stands as the final bastion of humanity in a world of eternal darkness. The magical power of Light is all that keeps the Shadow at bay, but under the surface, the Shadow schemes.

When shard hunter Viola discovers her mother's belongings further away from the city that anyone has ever been, she is compelled to set out on a quest to discover the truth of her disappearance that will lead her to the edge of the known world.

Meanwhile, within the city, newly minted Torchbearer Celeste is assigned to apprentice under Keira, a seasoned Torchbearer with a penchant for breaking the rules. When Keira's brother returns suddenly after being missing for years, they are thrust into a dark conspiracy that threatens to undermine everything the city stands for.

But lurking in dark corners are forces that would prefer that Last Light remains in darkness, and won't stop until the light is snuffed out.
