Brooklyn's father was someone you wanted to be on good terms with at all times. They have their good moments and their not so good moments. And after her parents divorced he was never the same again.
Brooklyn and John b had seen each other around because he works on her dad's boat, but the pogues don't really like her.
Then she meets the pogues and has a soft spot for them, well some of them, And that is very unusual for Brooklyn, except one of the pogues is kiara Carrera who is Sarah and Brooklyn's worse enemy.

{Book 1/2} Growing up in the shadow of her older half brother, John B, would not have been the life Harley would have chosen. After being dumped there at age six, Harley learnt quickly, that when you're a pogue, you don't have the best of luck. After being blackmailed by JJ, her brothers annoying best friend, Harley somehow finds herself getting in way over her head on a treasure hunt with John B and his friends, and in the chaos of it all, she finds herself starting to accept the fact that maybe pogue life isn't that bad after all, and maybe a certain blonde headed pogue in particular, wasn't as annoying as she originally thought.
