Torn Fates

1 part Complete

The land of Ersee is torn, divided, by the magical cataclysm The Spell Tear. What remains is more than just a scar - it is a gaping wound across the continent, bleeding its twisting reality and corrupting everything foolish enough to brush its hazy boundaries. Those who are foolish enough to tempt their luck never make it back, or at least, not whole. Kaerlior, a young huntress hardened by countless encounters with the torn - these creatures twisted by the Tear - has always survived by instinct and steel. Until her travels return her to Felham, a crumbling village on the brink of the Tear's ever-shifting reach, where she is presented with a challenge beyond the magical and monstrous. In Torn Fates, Kaerlior's journey is about more than survival - it's about understanding the pieces of herself that she's neglected, the shadows that follow her, and the vanishing threads of hope world that smothers it. This is the first small step into a larger tale of a world on the brink, where the line between man and monster is thinner than anyone wants to admit. This is short story derived from the introductory scenes for Kearlior, a protagonist in my long form epic fantasy Novel 'The Fate of Shadows'.
