Cerren is a outcast in her primary school. She has a hard time fitting in and struggles with her school work. It doesn't help that her Year 5 teacher Mrs Gupta is a bully.

Other than the kind and compassionate Mrs Adams, Cerren feels lost and alone. She just wants a friend who will make her feel validated. Her wish is finally granted when she meets a friendly but not so ordinary boy called Toby Wilson in the year above.
