To give a brief of the writing and intensity of the story:
"You have put me in a position where I cannot even kill myself," she whispered, her eyes wide, completely dark, without a single flicker of fear. "Because if I jump from the wall or take the poison, Since this is the life you gave me as a mercy, Karthik... only you have the right to take it back."
Before he could calculate her movement, she lunged forward, her left hand catching his right palm. She forced his fingers open, slammed the wooden hilt of the knife into his grip, and turned the silver point directly against her own breastbone, right over the thin white cotton of her blouse.
"Do it," she breathed, her face inches from his.
Karthik was so thoroughly taken aback by the sheer, mad momentum of her weight that his fingers instinctively tightened around the handle. For a terrifying fraction of a second, the physics of the room belonged entirely to the knife; she was pressing forward with such force that if he pushed back by a single inch, the steel would clear her ribs. If he tried to pull his hand away, her fingers were locked around his wrist, dragging her entire weight forward into the blade.
With a sharp, guttural roar of pure panic, Karthik twisted his wrist sideways, using the brute strength of his forearm to break her grip, and flung the iron knife across the room. It struck the stone wall with a loud, ringing clatter and skittered into the dark corner beneath the grain bin.
"Have you completely lost your mind?"
