Freedom comes at a prize, sometimes, the prize is more expensive than the result you expect.
Merripen Melgren wants freedom, so much that she'd quite literally give her life away, trying out for the rider's quadrant is her only way out so she doesn't hesitate.
But succeeding the parapet's ordeal isn't the only step to freedom, she knows it and she's ready for it. But is she ready to find freedom if it might cost her the very reason she's fighting for, her life ?

Outposts and enemies line the eastern mountains, guarded by many from the army, but most notably, the Dragon Riders. (Y/N)'s future was determined long before she was born. As far as she was concerned, none of that destiny included Basgiath; not after she watched her grandfather descend into mad ramblings from his battles after bonding a dragon, then fell to the whims of a power-hungry Colonel who would do anything to hurt her. The quadrant destroyed the good and empowered the bad, and she wanted nothing to do with it, no matter what her name spelled. Xaden Riorson's future was clear, no Basgiath or dragons in sight. That was, until he was 16, when his father's apostasy-turned-secession fell apart; his home was burned; and his father went missing, only to be reported by someone he thought was an ally, then murdered. A fanfiction based on Rebecca Yarros's novel and series Fourth Wing/Iron Flame from the Empyrean series. Most characters and the world are by Rebecca Yarros, but a couple of characters are created by me. It is recommended that you read Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm before reading this, but this may also be read without reading those books. The Merciless Crimson
When Skyla Whitlock, a renowned criminal, turns the age of 20, she is forced to join the Riders Quadrant. Just as did all the other children of the separatists did, as per the contract made by Xaden Riorson and General Lilith Sorrengail. She would make it her life's goal to see General Sorrengail, along with General Melgren, dead. However, that particular moment would have to wait. In the mean time, she needed to find Xaden. He would be a second year by the time she crossed the Parapet, and she would make it her mission to find Xaden and become his ally at Basgiath War College. She would give her life for his, as for he had done far more for her than she deserved. She would become as loyal to him as a dog to its owner. This book is a fan fiction of Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean series. It takes place one year before fourth wing, I plan to make books that follow the series. So there should be five more after this one, six in total. All characters and storyline belong to RY, besides Skyla Whitlock and some added characters that I made up due to when and where this book takes place.
