After Nikyee's parents died in the big airplane crash of 2000, she hasn't thought about it ever since. Her mind has been changed, so traumatized by everything that has gone on in the past year, first her parents dieing then her brother joining a gang, Nikyee is on her own.
Its like she just shut off her humanity and forgot everything about her parents and brother. She still has her grandma, but her grandma has dementia and is on her death bed.
She was so hurt she put all of her parents pictures and belongings in the attic, burned all of her brothers things and got a whole new wardrobe and furniture like they never lived there.
But Nikyee is still on the drum-line and men's football team. She's changed her life as if her parents weren't dead and her brother was in grad school.
