"No," Adrian cried, her grief echoing through the shadowy ballroom. She pressed a kiss to Cecilia's forehead, her lips barely grazing the chilled skin. "I swear to you, my dearest, I will find you again. No matter what. I promise." Her voice cracked as tears streamed down her cheeks.
As the grand chandeliers cast fleeting reflections on the polished marble floor, and the room remained empty except for the two solitary figures, Adrian held Cecilia's lifeless form and kissed her forehead while some of her salty tears fell down onto her lover's face. Her heart was shattered, but her determination remained unyielding. She would keep her vow, even if it meant an eternity of searching, for their love was an enduring flame that even death could not extinguish.
