By 1897, Joyce Robbins is a petty criminal in her late 20s due to a series of unfortunate events  - the common denominator for most like her, it seems. Having tragedy struck at a young age, Joyce finds herself plunged into the life of a single woman desperate for work and money to help provide for her and her siblings - and in this world, that only gives you about two options: stealing or selling yourself. 

So, she opted to steal.

Simple memories she'd made long ago seem to determine her fate, however, as some familiar faces show up and completely alter her sullen trajectory. When a fateful meeting goes much differently than expected, Joyce is again left with two choices: die, or keep moving forward. 

So again, she opts for the latter.
