Sans has been forced to do child labor for his father with his brother, Papyrus. He doesn't mind it, more college credit for him, it's his brother that concerns him.
Papyrus has always wanted to be in the royal guard, but he's "Doctor Gaster's little helper", he's not even little anymore; he's 15. Papyrus is forced to do work with his 17 year-old brother. Dad says it's to help your learning skills.
Gaster just doesn't want to admit he wants less of a workload.
One accident makes everything worse for the two brothers, an accident where no one can help them.
