When a bloody coup overtakes the royal capital of Mahijen, young crown prince Jyran is forced to flee with the aid of his sworn knight, Zahir- who sacrifices himself to ensure the prince's safety.

Alone and frightened, the naive prince quickly finds himself crossing enemy lines into Ahjuwal- and caught up in the hands of a barbarian general who seems far too interested in his new slave.

Captured in Mahijen, Zahir is desperate to find the missing prince. Hearing that an envoy from Ahjuwal will arrive for the coronation, Zahir sees his chance to escape, and puts his fate in the hands of their warrior king.

Though they walk separate paths, Jyran and Zahir are no less connected by the bonds they swore to as children- and as they find their way in a new world, it is with the hope that one day they'll be reunited, and can salvage the memories of their broken family.
