They were your normal teen friend group, laughing about their childish dreams and pretending their home lives weren't shitty. When North Korean defectors, Iseul and Minjun, moved to their neighborhood in Santee, California, it leads them to discover each other's home-life secrets and band together to escape the terrible people that are parents. They were just kids though, unaware of the struggles that came with being a group of five runaways.

Kimberly had made a lot of friends in her life. She loved them all and she always felt loved when she was with them. It was like a whole group of misfits, who were all very different from each other and that's why they completed each other perfectly. She felt like she didn't need anybody else than her friends.
