Cauterisation

In this story, the protagonist is a member of a group known as Civil Protection, living in a dystopian world under the control of an oppressive entity referred to as Overwatch. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic city where the population is tightly controlled and subjugated. Overwatch communicates with the population through mind-piercing commands, and the protagonist and their squad members receive cryptic orders they don't fully understand.

As the story unfolds, the protagonist and their squad are involved in a situation where they encounter a group of soldiers with various roles, including large, heavily armored soldiers and mysterious "Ordinals." These soldiers are under the direct command of Overwatch and don't seem entirely human. The protagonist is drawn into a tense situation when Overwatch issues orders to engage an "AntiCitizen One."

During a confrontation, the protagonist has a sudden realization about the oppressive nature of their world and the true nature of those who oppose the Combine, the controlling force. In a moment of rebellion, the protagonist takes action and kills one of the soldiers before realizing that they have aided a renowned rebel figure.

As the rebel figure escapes on a hovercraft, pursued by a formidable attack helicopter, Overwatch continues to issue orders and uses the term "Individual" as if it were a derogatory word.

The story explores themes of oppression, conformity, and the awakening of individuality within a dehumanizing society, ultimately leading the protagonist to make a fateful choice.
