Seraphina Flores is the ultimate sweetheart, a bubbly extrovert whose smile seems to have a permanent lease on her face, and she can't go five minutes without sharing her infectious joy. Her mission in life is spreading happiness and kindness, and if you look up "hate" in her personal dictionary, you'd find it scribbled out with hearts. On the flip side, we have our notorious Ryan Carden, a certified heartbreaker with a chronic case of the grumps. His scowl seemed almost permanent, and his reputation for dealing with life's challenges had turned him into a schoolwide legend, albeit not in a good way. Strangely enough, Seraphina was the one person who didn't shrink in Ryan's presence. He despised her, and even he couldn't quite put his finger on why. What grated on him more was how effortlessly she invaded his thoughts, as if she held the keys to his mind without even trying. In a twist of fate, she was head over heels for him. His hate only fueled her determination to pursue him, even if it meant diving headfirst into the risky game of potentially losing herself in him. As their final year of high school dawns, a twist of fate throws them into the same social circle, courtesy of their well-meaning friends. While Ryan's grumpiness remains steadfast, so does Seraphina's resolve to break through his tough exterior. After all, don't they say opposites attract? It seems these two might just be living proof.

"If you were really my best friend, you'd see that you were the only person I've ever wanted to be with. You've been dating everyone else while I'm just sitting around waiting for you to open your damn eyes!" I yelled at him as tears streamed down my cheeks. He looked at me with wide eyes, clearly confused. He then held a sympathetic look on his face when he saw how passionate I was about this entire situation. I can't believe he didn't realize all these years that he was the one I wanted to be with all along. "How was I supposed to know Riley? You didn't tell me shit!" He yelled back at me but still held his same sympathetic look. I shook my head at him, wiping my face as I backed away from him, stepping into a pile of snow in the process. There was already snow on ground but more snow had just started to fall from the sky. "Look, I have to go. My mom wants me home for dinner." I said turning on my heels and walking away towards my house. I didn't even bother looking back but I knew he was still standing there. I wondered if he'd run after me or if he'd sweep me off my feet like I always imagined but no, nothing. Just broken dreams and maybe even a broken friendship. *For hopeless romantics
