"You want to show me you're not the bad guy?" I ask as I keep my voice quiet.

"I can try," he breathes out as his grip tightens, "Would that change anything?"

His hand slides up to wrap his fingers around my jaw as I respond, "It might. If you try hard enough."

He nods as he takes a deep breath and I can see every muscle in his body tense. He quietly whispers his next sentence as if he's worried about how I'd react.

"I'm dangerous, but you know I'd never hurt you, Caroline."

I stare up at him as I feel his nose brush the tip of mine. This man both captivates me and terrifies me.

"God, what are you doing to me?"
