Katie Alexander is a gifted kid. She can read 2 or 3 books at a time and remember what's happening in each, she takes multiple AP classes, and can hold her own against her teachers. That's why she chose Heartwood Academy, an exclusive boarding school for high school.
She was expecting the hard classes. Expecting to do a million extracurriculars to build her college applications (Wellesely, Harvard, etc).
But it never once crossed her mind that she could have a crush on another girl. Stella Nolan is the most sunshiney, starry person Katie has ever seen. She can't even speak coherent sentences around her.

So when they 're assigned as roommates, for the first time in her life, Katie doesn't know what to do. Other than fall head over heels.
