Ten years ago, they were neighbors. Ten years ago, they were everything. And then, ten years ago, Luke disappeared without a word, leaving Maeve to pick up the pieces of a life he was no longer part of. Now, a random weekend staycation has thrown them back into the same orbit. They aren't kids anymore, but the history between them hasn't aged a day. Neither of them knows how to navigate the feelings that are starting to resurface-feelings that go much deeper than a childhood crush. They are both in total denial about how much they still matter to each other, playing a dangerous game of who can act more indifferent while the air between them screams otherwise. In a world of missed signals and ten years of secrets, they are one heartbeat away from losing each other for the second time. How do you bridge a gap that's been ten years in the making? Author's Note Note: This story contains explicit language and mature themes. This story has been sitting in my drafts since 2023, and I'm finally reworking the plot and filling in the gaps to give these characters the depth they deserve. Heavily inspired by music and the "what ifs" of life, this is my first long-form story, and I'm so excited to finally share it with you. This serves as an alternative/extended ending to the short story 'You Weren't Mine To Lose' from the Whispers In The Wind collection. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
