Lana has lived her entire life with the Society of Friends, an organization dedicated to rescuing wounded pokemon in need and raising them back to health. With her trusty Pikachu, Paka, and the caring workers at the Society, she leads a comfortable and safe life protecting pokemon from danger. 

But one day, she rescues a severely wounded Pikachu that is definitely more than what it seems. The next day, tens, hundreds, of Pikachus are being rescued, all terrified and near death. Then Lana finds out something even stranger. Trainers have been disappearing all over Johto and Kanto, and they all have one thing in common: the possession of a certain electric type pokemon. 

And it isn't long before Lana's next.

But things aren't taken lightly and everyone soon discovered that there was trauma in their past. Q - Is this story based on Pokemon Red or FireRed? A - The story has a few iconic moments from the games/manga but those events do not play a big part in the main story arc. Q - Is Ash Ketchum in it? A - The story takes place in its own universe. I try to bring some events from the games, the manga, and the anime. You get to see a different version of Ash Ketchum (close to how he has been depicted in the anime) in 2 chapters of this book. Q - Is Team Rocket the same as in the anime? A - While Cassidy and Butch are characters from the anime, they have a different overall character arc than in the anime. Team Rocket is darker than in any previous versions and has a purpose and a plan other than stealing. Giovanni's plan plays out slowly in the course of three books. Q - It has time travel? A - It does, time travel is hinted at in the first book with the actual "time traveling" in the second book. Q - "I hope the protagonist has a father, hahaha" A - Yes, he does. The character mostly appears in flashbacks but is an important character.

Right after she gained her eighth Gym badge in Unova, she had an urge to visit her home region of Kanto and her friends who live there. After visiting with her family and friends in Pallet Town, she headed to Cerulean Cape to visit Bill, who started up Crystal's PC Pokémon storage system. Bill was in the middle of an experiment and Crystal offers to help, which brings her the ability of a Ditto: the ability to change into any Pokémon. That is, with practice.
