Gillie had been controlled by her mother her whole life, inable to experience bliss in the ways she hoped for. But she had her coddling dad, and her older sister, Lidiya to keep her afloat. So when her father dies, and her sister leaves out of the blue, Gillie wanted nothing more then to leave her good for nothing small town and become the talented artist she once was, all before drugs took a hold on her life.
Now seventeen and still struggling with her addiction, Gillie reaches out to her old friend Ryder who'd just moved back to town, in hopes of her old friendship back. But that boy she once knew is gone.
No longer the copy and paste suburban boy she never noticed, Ryder Lawson has become all bad and spike, piercings at each corner of his face, ink sealing his body like chains, and each of his words snapping at her like a knife. Even with his dangerous demonear and distance, his juvienal behaviour has only drawn Gillie closer, trying to uncover the mask underneath, digging up the old boy he had buried-the boy she once knew.
But Ryder's new persona is a tough one to crack, especially when Gillie is drawn more to the new man that he had crafted than the one she used to know. Suddenly she can't see the line between the wrongs and rights to her new desires ... desires that may no longer be a substance, but a person she'd never thought she'd want.
