I'm waiting here in the dark. it's the kind of dark that only exists deep underground. It's so quiet that all I can hear is my own breathing. I'm trying to find the courage that, as my dad told me, runs in our family. I'm not afraid of the dark. But I am afraid of what may be in it. I'm afraid of what I might hear . The scratch of sharp claws against stone and then . . . a whisper.

Right now I'm curled up in a corner because I was running from someone trying to kill me. I don't know how long I have before they find me, but for what time I do have I know I can't keep it a secret. It's all been a secret too long, with only a few people knowing.
