This was the cult of Cthulhu, and when Alex was born they called him Cthulhu's son. Alex was born out of a ritual too, the ritual was to impregnate a girl using blood from everyone in the cult and the blood of Cthulhu that he guided the cult members too through their dreams.
the cult immediately made him the symbol for their people saying he is the one to awaken Cthulhu from his slumber. He was born because Cthulhu told one of the members through a dream that a certain ritual must be performed to create a new life that will bring Cthulhu back from his slumber.
When he was born the church prayed to him everyday for hours.
