Brinley Higgins is a modern-day high school student in Brooklyn, with an older brother with many rowdy friends. She's a sophomore, and her brother, Racetrack, is a junior, his friends scattered among many different grades. Brinley is used to all the guys her brother hangs out with and loves them all like brothers. She would much rather hang out with them then any of her volleyball teammates. But the one guy she's always wanted to be around has never been part of their group. So, what happens when suddenly one day he is?

Spot Conlon is the school's star quarterback. He's a junior, and he spends every second he can practicing so he can get into a good college on scholarship, since his family is on the poorer side. He swore to himself that he wouldn't get caught up with any girls or friends, as to not get distracted. But after a game one day, his wide receiver, Mush, invites him to a movie night. He goes and suddenly he's part of a group that's filled with love and friends, something he never really understood. Then he meets a girl that brightens his entire world and could change his life forever.

She is a real good fighter and can take care of herself pretty well. When she was 5, her parents were taken away and murdered, therefore she had to run away and ended up in Manhattan, for everyone thought she was the one that did it. Jack Kelly, who became her unofficial brother, took her in after a few years and brought her up to fight and sell papers. Racetrack Higgins was a normal Manhattan Newsie- more or less. He was Gay, but so were all of his brothers. He was Jack's Second in Command and had a rough past. He was stubborn, has anxiety, and is a good bit chaotic. Spot Conlon was not a normal Newsie. He was the King of Brooklyn, the Borough feared by most. Except for Race. (And a few others.) Said Italian blonde boy was actually a half Brooklyn, half Manhattan Newsie, as he sold in Brooklyn. Sure, Spot scared him sometimes, but not a lot. They were very different. Spot had brown hair, Race had dirty blonde. Race had been to the Refuge, Spot hadn't. Spot had brown eyes, Race had bright blue eyes. Race was strong, but easily outnumbered, Spot was strong, but wasn't easily outnumbered. One think they both agreed was that they cared for their boys more than anything and would do anything to keep them safe. Oh, that and that the other was cute.
