When 15 year-old Clara Maimone moves to a small town in Long Island with her dad after he files for a divorce with her abusive mother, everything changes. Clara is different from any girl in her new school. She has a different music taste and doesn't fit in with anyone. Her talents are hidden, but many define her because of her scars and her past. The only person she knows she can talk to is her next door neighbor, Jake Sanderson. His words seem to make Clara forget about her past and her current situations. When Clara's worst enemy, her own sister, Lilly finds out what she's been hiding in the past year, her life seems like it's the end. Clara lives a life of suffering through depression, memories of her rough past, and constant issues of her peers physically and verbally abusing her. Is Jake the only one who can save her? Or will Clara be pushed too far and end everything to end her pain.

Clara Byrne spends most of her days trying to disappear. Between a drunk father, a ghost of a mother, and a brother who only ever talks to his screen, she's learned to keep quiet and stay out of the way. Her only escape is the town library, quiet, steady, safe. Until one afternoon, a voice cuts through the noise of her world. "Oi! Pretty girl!" Jamie Wells is everything she isn't, loud, fearless, alive. He makes her laugh in ways she's forgotten how. For the first time, Clara begins to imagine a future that doesn't hurt. But in a place where bad luck finds good people easily, happiness doesn't last long. One moment changes everything, and Clara is left with a silence even the library can't hold.
