Darina, is a determined, funny, fun-loving and talented young girl! At just 18 years old, she has already forged many a weapon and defeated a few boys in a fight!

She grew up in Danish Mercia and is the daughter of Guthrum! But when he betrayed life as a Dane and converted to Christianity, she fled to the fortress of Dunholm!

Kjartan only took her in because he saw a use for her blacksmithing skills! During the years she was there, she met his bastard son Sihtric! They became fast friends and he always brought her freshly picked flowers!

But one day he and some of Kjartan's men were sent to find the warrior Uhtred Ragnarsson and bring him to the fortress! So Darina and Sihtric had to say goodbye to each other for the time being!

No sign of him for months, so Darina decided to believe that he had joined Uhtred to survive! Suddenly an attack on Dunholm followed and so on Kjartan! The result was that Kjartan and Sven were killed, Dunholm was taken and Sihtric was made to know that Darina had been killed in action!

But in reality she had travelled to Winchester to buy herbs and only returned days after the battle! But Sihtric, Uhtred and the rest of his men were already gone and she once again did not know where to find Sihtric...

But she met Ragnar, Uhtred's brother, and became friends with his wife Brida! It was years before Uhtred and his men stood at Dunholm's gates one day and asked to be let in...

Will she and Sihtric now find each other again?

Or will something come between them again?
