There are four types of powers that the gifted possess. Mind-readers, warpers, and shield-wielders are all accepted and fairly common forms of gifts. Shadow-walkers are less common, and terribly frightening. But nobody knows what she is, and to be unknown and other can be dangerous.

Unable to use her voice to scream, Josephine Rivers witnesses the brutal murder of her family at a young age, and knowing she was the cause makes it that much more traumatizing. Years later, she moves from city to city, never staying in one place for long, seeking retribution for their deaths and for any leads on the group of people intent on finding her and using her untapped power for their evil purposes.
