Just as I pull my book from my bag, it's slapped out of my hand. "Whoa, slow down there, baby doll," a voice drawls with a smug edge.
I roll my eyes, reaching down to retrieve it. "Maybe if you were paying attention," I shoot back, irritation crackling in my voice.
"My bad, doll, no need for the attitude," he says, his lips curving in a lazy, self-satisfied smirk. I pause, taking in his dark features-definitely Hispanic, messy hair - and okay, kind of cute... if only he could watch where he was going.
"I don't have time for this," I mutter, already moving to step past him. But before I can, he catches my arm.
"What's your name? I don't think I've seen you around," he says, his gaze steady and that smirk still glued to his face.
"My name is 'None of Your Business,' and that's all you need to know," I snap, yanking my arm free. I turn and walk away, hoping that's the end of it.
"Mine's Lucas, in case you're curious," he calls after me, his tone teasing.
Without missing a beat, I look back over my shoulder. "I'm not."
Kennedi just ended a relationship she thought would last, and with her heart in pieces, she's barely ready to tackle her sophomore year. But Lucas, with that infuriating smirk and undeniable charm, crashes into her world with a force she wasn't expecting. Will she shut him out, or will she get caught up in a whirlwind she's not prepared for?
Hang on-this might be one ride she didn't see coming.
