Nobody's Woman - NaNoWriMo 2023 (ON HOLD)

Born in New York in the later years of the nineteenth century, Edith Cross is an orphan whom no one wants. Leaving her miserable orphanage at nineteen years old to look for a job, she accepts an ad in the newspapers that says Ruby Matthews, a very rich woman, needs a paid companion. This isn't all it's cracked up to be, given that Ruby and her friends humiliate and berate her constantly. She's beautiful and determined, but it's not important compared to her timidness and embarrassing behaviour. No matter how much she wants to fit into high society, it looks like she'll never be able to do so. Still, she doesn't give up on chasing the American dream, and the world seems to reward her for it. It appears that an one-way ticket to the realisation of her dreams falls right into her hands when she meets Julian Sinclair, a self-made rich man, by chance, and he's charmed by her and offers her a job as his servant. However, the misfortune that looms over her head and the mysteriousness that looms over his may plunge them deep into tragedy forevermore.
