The prize was just too enticing for you to resist the idea of claiming it for yourself. Whether it is a BFDI, unlimited power, or a BFB, you were selfish enough to want it all.

In spite of your selfishness, you were not disliked among the sea of contestants. If anything, you were well-liked and might as well be deemed popular. Albeit you were a little creeped out, you didn't dare reject any of their kindness because if it could get you further into the competition, you were willing to be grateful and accept anything placed within your hands.
