He must stray too close, because one of the patrols he can hear behind him goes, "Halt!"

The stormtroopers come over and Hunter starts strategising. Starting a fight this close to an Imperial base is about the worst idea a person could come up with, worse still is picking a fight with imps this close to an imperial base. Getting captured would also be a horrible idea. His only bet is talking his way out of this, but the chance of success for that is abysmal. Still, he has to try.

"State your business."

"Dad!" Hunter and the troopers all snap their heads over as a child rushes over, hands lifting their long skirt just a little. They're the same kid he spotted in the spaceport just a few hours ago, a stranger, but they're helping anyway, and he's not in a position to refuse.

In simple terms, the Bad Batch is not immune to the Mandalorian adoption instinct.

Din Djarin must defend the child against dark Force wielders who would gladly take the little one off his hands. He will have to decide whether to trust some new allies, for the safety of the child. Note: This was written before season 2 of The Mandalorian came out. I wanted to throw together some characters from different Star Wars series and see how they'd interact. Turns out, a couple of them did end up meeting. In this story, they get to go on a whole adventure. They learn some things about each other and about themselves along the way, which is often painful, but could create bonds of trust if that's what they choose. Getting into these characters' heads and exploring the Force and the galaxy far far away have been an amazing ride. I finished this story on May the 4th, 2020. Then later, my friends urged me to polish it up and put it out there. So here it is for anyone who would enjoy it! It's not meant to replace anything that's going on in the show (which has been amazing so far, by the way). It's just an exploration and speculation on these characters and their universe. This is a fanfiction. The universe, most of the characters, and most of the locales belong to Star Wars. If you search a character or planet on Wookieepedia and it comes up with nothing, chances are I made them up (because I checked, too, before I gave them names). However, they were sometimes partly inspired by existing characters or planets in Star Wars. My use of the mando'a language was inspired by its use in Karen Traviss's Republic Commando novels (which I highly recommend if you want to learn some things about Mandalorian culture . . . And they're good stories.)

All he wanted to do was give the kid a better life. He wasn't expecting to give it to two. When his escape is aided by an ex-stormtrooper, Din has little faith that they're true to their word. It isn't until the stormtrooper revealed a deep secret to him that completely breaks him, and everything he knew. Now, he had to choose between his Creed, his religion, or this crazy ex-imp with a burning passion for Mandalorian armor.
