There is a reason why the Black family considers certain individuals "filth", a reason which didn't age well as the years passed. It was this reason, though, that Phineas wanted to change the way students were admitted to Hogwarts, but it had nothing to do with banning Muggleborn as Sirius Black would likely be inclined to believe his ancestor did.

Disclaimer - I don't own Hogwarts Legacy. This is written for the first regular Froday challenge for August 2023, the prompt being selection.

The inspiration for this story lies in the idea Sirius Black is an Unreliable Narrator when it comes to his family, the Black family. More specifically, I'm interested in degrees of prejudice and why a particular character may or may not hold a degree of prejudice, which in turn left me wanting to examine Phineas Nigellus Black's character to which I realized for his character's historical context is essential.

This, in turn, made me realize historical context is actually essential for all the characters given how Muggle and Wizarding societies separated from each other in 1692, which in turn would mean cultural schisms between the two groups regarding the way they think about certain things. This particular story focuses on the workhouse still existing around the time Phineas Nigellus Black was headmaster, but also the assumption his wanting to change how students were admitted had to do with him barring Muggleborn, and this not being the case.

This isn't to say what he wanted wasn't controversial, because it certainly is, although it's also not as controversial as Johnathan Swift's modest proposal was.

Cordelia Rosier and the Proprietorial Portraiture ~ Marauder's Era AU by 888AthenaBlack888
15 parts Complete
"Merry meet. I am Cordelia of the Most Inbreded and Snobbish House of Rosier." Contrary to popular belief, Sirius Black wasn't the biggest disgrace. No, that title rightfully belonged to Cordelia Rosier. (Secretly, of course). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In the Rosier household, words such as 'blood-traitor' and 'muggle-lover' is spat on with hatred. There is no bigger betrayal than thinking that the 'mud-bloods' are worth having magic. By the age of seven, Cordelia Rosier was quite sure that she was one of the blood-traitors that her family detests. Don't get her wrong, she loves her family with all her heart, soul and being and she wouldn't trade her parents and older brother for anything in the world, but there are just a few things that she doesn't necessarily agree on with them. Opinions on blood-purity happen to be one of them. That doesn't mean she'll admit to them about it though. Like she mentioned, she loves her family and she doesn't want to disappoint them. But there is no reason she can't do both, right? Surely, there must be some way that she doesn't have to make it publicly known about her thoughts on blood-purity while still keeping true to her personal beliefs, right? When Cordelia met Sirius Black one evening, there couldn't have been two children who became faster friends. Join Cordelia as she navigates through school and life in general, discovering the true meaning of deception as she plays a game of 'blood-traitor, 'blood-traitor not' with everybody and realises the difference between 'want to' and 'have to' But that all comes much later. After all, she's currently only a first-year, and right now, there are more important things to worry about like classes, homework and why somebody is trying to kill all the Hufflepuffs. Madilin VanCourt: A Marauders Fanfic [COMPLETED] by kesiasweeney
47 parts Complete
Madilin VanCourt. The VanCourts are famous for being rich, powerful, and prejudice against muggleborns. Sirius Black. The Blacks are famous for the same things. Every member of the two families is sorted into Slytherin, except for Madilin and Sirius. Neither family is happy, Mady and Sirius are outcasts, they should be best friends... right? Wrong! Madilin can't stand Sirius, who developed a crush on her in third year. When sixth year rolls around, the wizarding world is a mess. Voldemort, the darkest wizard the earth has ever seen, is on the rise. Muggleborns are slaughtered, purebloods are more powerful than ever, and Madilin finds herself forced to make a decision that no fifteen year old should make. Should she follow in her families footsteps, or follow her heart and do what's right? Disclaimer*** I initially wrote this story when I was eleven, five whole ass years ago. I'll be the first to admit that the writing in the first chunk of this story is fairly poor and many people have not been hesitant to tell me so through comments or direct messages. I truly can't believe that this has gotten the reception that it has and I am forever grateful to anyone who read this and helped boost the confidence of eleven year old me. I will never delete this story for sentimental reasons but I do feel the need to warn y'all that it is not my best piece of writing (though it is the one that's done the best so what do I know?)
