This is a love story between 2 different worlds, is there love strong enough to survive?

This story is about a human girl named Sophie and a merman named Ryder . They have been friends since primary school as he decided to live on land away from his colonies. One day he disappeared never to be seen again . Where did he go was a thought she often pondered. 5 years later sophie is 17 and on a boat being shipped off to boarding school, when her boat is being hijacked by a group of savage merfolk. The tifin.
When Sophie is being attacked by a savage one a particular merman saves her. To ensure her safety he ditched the tail and takes her to a cave. But is she really safe when her protection is on land instead of in the sea. Ryder is afraid of her finding out about is true identity but what if his true identity the thing that saves her.
What happens next?? Read to find out. Sorry for a poor description I wasn't sure what to write!
