Amidst the shimmering façade of a world painted in perfection and utopia, a shadow of deceit loomed over the unaware population. It was a world where citizens smiled through their days, ignorant of the intricate web of illusion woven around them. The sun always shone, the skies were perpetually blue, and the cities gleamed with an otherworldly luster. Yet, behind this idyllic veneer, lay a truth concealed by those who sought to manipulate and control.

Unbeknownst to the masses, history had been rewritten, memories altered, and knowledge distorted. The government, an amalgamation of ideologies that had once plagued the world, had risen to power under the guise of unity and harmony. Socialism, communism, Marxism, and totalitarianism merged into a single entity that held the strings of every citizen's life. The all-seeing eye of artificial intelligence monitored every thought, every action, ensuring conformity to the established norms.

Resistance was the flicker of hope that persisted in the hearts of a few. Scattered across the globe, these individuals dared to question the perfection presented to them. They yearned for a return to the democratic ways of their ancestors, where freedom, free speech, and independent living were cherished above all else.

#9 in UTOPIA 3/3/19 I couldn't take my eyes off of Dean as he stared at the glimmering stars in the night sky. "I believe the story of our lives is already written in the stars. Our destiny is already given to us. The end of our lives will always end the same, no matter what we try to do to change it." I watched a strand of his blond hair fall over his ear. "What does that mean?" "It means that if you are the person who is destined to take the two parts of this country and bring them together, then it will happen one way or another." His heterochromia eyes found mine and I found myself entranced by them. "And Mel, by the looks of things right now, I'd say your story has started and you are already working towards your destiny." ** One country. Two nations. After the country split in two, the nations renamed themselves the Ameliorates and the Extricates. The Ameliorates live in a community full of stability and order. Melody Sharpe is the daughter of the Ameliorates' leaders. All her life she was told that the Extricates lived in a place full of chaos and destruction. What happens when she finds herself questioning everything she had once been taught? What does she do when she meets Dean Martin--the son of the Extricate leaders--who tells her that everything she knows is a lie? Why did the Extricates really split away from the Ameliorates? Why do the Extricates fear the Ameliorates more than anything else? Are the Extricates really the "bad" side? Melody starts asking questions--something she isn't supposed to do--and it might just lead her into the middle of a war.

Two figures walked up to the house and stopped in front of the fence. Scarlett shuffled closer to the figures to be able to hear what they were saying. She didn't know who they were, but if they lived in that mansion they were probably rich. And if they were rich that meant they'd have money. Money to pay debts. She hid behind a large trashcan and spied on the figures. It was a boy and a girl; with the girl in a wheelchair. And luckily, she could hear their voices. 'I'm not sure about this, are you sure you're going to be okay?', the boy asked the girl. 'No,' she replied as she suspiciously scanned the area and sniffed her nose. 'There's someone out there,' she said eventually. The boy looked around, confused, and smiled. 'It's probably just a stray cat.' 'No,' the girl said again, 'I know this scent.' Scarlett tensed and held her breath. What did she meant when she said she knew that scent? The girl pushed her wheelchair away from the fence, away from the house and the boy obediently followed. 'I told you, it's probably nothing.' Scarlett hid her head behind the trashcan and took off her backpack. There she reached for her collapsible sword. It slowly started to rain and Scarlett cursed silently to herself. This would blur her hearing senses. She could hear the girl approach as she was mumbling to herself. 'Where have I smelled this scent before? Where- Who?' Scarlett released her breath, closed her eyes and let the adrenaline kick in. She took off the cloth from her face. This girl had money, everything else didn't matter. She walked out of the shadows while the rain started pouring down on her. The boy and girl looked up at her in surprise and sharpened their attention. Her face wasn't too be seen, as she wore a large hood over her head and a cloth covering her face. Once she was close enough, she pulled out a small object that collapsed into a large sword and raised her chin challenging. 'I'm going to need your money.

"Any thought you ever had; memories, desires, your fears and your dreams, are all recorded and stored safely in the Quantum Cloud for your eventual revival. Death is now merely a transitional period to the next stage of your existence. As a QUBIT (quantum processing biosynthetic), you will experience a life free of disease and suffering. Time is no longer your enemy. Regret is a thing of the past. Each new day brings the promise of endless possibilities, spent in the pursuit of your own happiness, guiltless with the knowledge that there are no longer earthly constraints to inhibit you. This is the life you have always wanted. Welcome to your new beginning..." Akropolis is a city at the end of times, a sanctuary where the brightest and best have been housed since the last Great War. A genome defect has afflicted the majority of the population and scientists are desperate to find a cure. In the meantime, man has found his own salvation in the form of the QUBIT (quantum processing bio-synthetic), an android that is capable of prolonging life almost indefinitely, and yet what makes them human in the first place has been lost in the transition. The ruling council believes that salvation is nigh, but whether that hope arrives in time is questionable. The city's future depends upon the actions of a few individuals, all of whom are struggling with their own mortality. Quentin is the boy who dreams of death. Mia is the tortured soul. Trey is the soldier that defines duty. Misao is the future of the ruling council. Claire is the girl with a secret that will rock the foundations of their entire civilization. Unbeknownst to them, the entire fate of Akropolis lies in their hands. Either humanity will find a way to survive or it will sink slowly into the sea of extinction.

Nina is captured by parbeing man. He plans to turn her into his pet. He knows she won't go down without a fight, but he's not prepared for how much 'fight' she has packed in her small body. His new pet leaks into every area of his life, changing things in ways he could never have imagined. Parbeings are the new and improved apex predators of Earth. Created from gene editing, they are the perfect humans, so perfect that they are no longer even considered human. *** Content Warning: The protagonist of this story is a victim of abuse. I do not condone the actions of the antagonist *** Chapter 1 extract: "Hey Alex. Get over here. I've got something for you," he calls into his collar radio. I reach the end of the alley and turn to face my foe once again, but he remains where he is, still blocking my path but not approaching either. New plan: when he gets close, duck under his arms and make a run for it. Now I just have to wait. Before a minute has even passed, another armoured soldier appears and joins the first. This just keeps getting worse. How am I supposed to dodge past two of them? "What do you want now?" the new soldier grumbles. This one must be Alex. "Look at this cute little human I found. She's feisty. I think she's perfect for you." I glare at them. "I don't want a pet human. That's your disgusting fetish, and I'll have no part in it." "Oh come on Captain," the first soldier whines, "You don't have to fuck her, just train her to be obedient. Surely you can control one measly wild human? You are a captain after all. When you're done, you can just get rid of her, like I do with my humans." What the fuck? For a brief moment my fear is replaced by anger. Who do they think they are, talking about me like I'm some kind of wild animal? "Get the fuck away from me! You freaks!" I screech. The first soldier just flashes an evil grin. They don't budge. "Are you just going to let her talk to you like that?" he goads Alex. (Complete. 70k words.)

"If we were so riveted in the spectrum of nature, why did we stand, petrified, as we became corrupted by idle technology, stupefied by glowing screens, stolen from life as we know it from enemies right under our noses? Why did we relent to this obvious threat when we did have the capability to change, and prevent our peaceful hierarchy from being razed? It was the consequence of this stupidity that condemned us all to slaves, servants of a towering race of robots and data." The year 2096. Robots rule the world. Their grip seemed impenetrable, the extent of their control unknown by the humans. Society is blinded by the splendour and wealth of all the technology. "We live in mere fear, unable to access any computerised knowledge for fear of being discovered. We're convicted to the old ways of living, our specialists abilities unable to be used. It puts a very ironic twist on the definition of being free." COMPLETED --
