| "Everyone give a round of applause to the tributes from District Four!" Her voice rang through the crowd.
It echoed for a minute before it fully sank into my bones. My stomach ached with an impending sadness that made my knees feel wobbly. I look around one last time desperately trying to find Delilah before catching a glimpse of strawberry blonde hair on the front left side of the crowd.
We meet eyes before she looks away. My eyes well even more at the betrayal. I feel the tears fall before I can stop them.
A little voice in the back of my head says something. It is only a whisper. I can't hear it at first, but as soon as I listen carefully I do. Run. |
