Avery is 17 and lives in a small town in South Carolina, she has her entire life planned out. 2 kids, a loving husband and a career as a nurse, is her perfect future. Her and her best friend Jake recently got together and she thinks that this is it. He's the one she wants to marry. Everything is just simple with him and she doesn't have to worry about anything. Avery is good in school but starts having troubles in Chemistry, her teacher wants her to become better in the subject so he assigns her to study with Silas. He shows her that what you need is not always what you want.
Silas is not the typical bad boy, he is smart, crazy smart. Gets good grades without even studying and is on top of his class without even participating, which leads to a horrible class attendance. Some teachers hate him, some see his talents. But Silas doesn't care about any of that, he just cares for his friends and driving motorcycles, a plan for the future never crossed his mind. When his chemistry teacher tells him to study with Avery, he is not happy about it because it just means more time involving school and less time with his friends. But the time he spent tutoring Avery didn't completely go to waste.
