Life for a magic wielder in the continent of Atna can be terribly dangerous if you don't follow the strict rules of Sheehan law. In an attempt to keep a balance of power between magic wielders and Sheehan Sorcerers, The Severance is enacted. You must live within the boundaries of your clan, unless you partake in The Severance, a barbaric sterilization ritual to prevent the creation of children who may wield more than one power. To be caught as a dual wielder or traveling without the mark of The Severance is punishable by death. 

Elowen, a Sylvie Clan member, finds herself on the run seeking refuge after a strange man unlocks a power she never knew she had. Pushed outside of Sylvie Clan borders with no mark of The Severance, she finds Finn, a member of a rebel clan harboring survivors of The Severance. As she works to strengthen her new power and gets closer to Finn, the strange man who unlocked her gift keeps intruding on her life, complicating Elowen's future with Finn and his clan. 

She must depend on her instincts to survive. But survival runs deeper than her dual wielding powers, exposing a web of lies. Elowen finds herself knee deep in political scandal, suddenly fighting for more than just her own freedom.
